International Mud Day is a popular holiday started by one of the Working Groups of the World Forum Foundation. How will you be celebrating this year on June 29?
To get you thinking, here are some ideas from Sandra Duncan and Jody Martin about using dirt and mud with children (from their book, Bringing the Outside In).
“Dirt Painting: To make paint, mix dirt with water…until thin enough to use as paint. Provide paint brushes and pieces of cardboard canvases for the young Rembrandts in your classroom. Or, adding a small amount of dirt to finger paint creates an interesting texture for children to use. With your help, encourage children to do the mixing of dirt and paint.”
“Dirt Dough: Why does mud and dirt have to stay outside? Be brave and bring some mud and dirt into the classroom….Find some dirt, bring it inside and make dirt dough.
Dirt Dough Recipe
3 cups dirt
3 cups flour
1 cup oil.”
PS: Always wanted to present at the World Forum on Early Care and Education? The deadline for submitting presentation proposals is June 30, 2018.
