Stay True to Your Priorities

Be content with what you have, rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.

In an article, “The Best Thing I Did in 2005 That You Can Do in 2006,” in BottomLine Personal (December 15, 2005; BottomLineSecrets.com), poker champion Phil Hellmuth, shares this story…

“In 2005, I took a hard look at whether I was spending my life in a way that was in line with my priorities, and I discovered that I wasn’t.  My top priorities are health and family — yet toward the end of 2004, I spent so much time on business that I wasn’t paying enough attention to my health and my family.  Poker has been so hot lately that I felt I had to take advantage of the opportunities while they were there — but poker has been hot for a few years now.  I knew I had to start scaling back on work even if it would cost me some money.  So in 2005, I skipped a few tournaments and delayed my next book for a year.  In the end, the only opportunities that are too good to miss are those that are tied to what is truly important.”
