PUTTING YOUR STRESS TO
WORK

offered this insight on stress:
"A group of freshmen at North Carolina State University were asked to write
about a stressful event in their lives or simply record their daily activities.
Those who wrote about stress scored higher in a subsequent test of written
memory skills. To find out why, Professor Kitty Klein asked other students
to write about an 'extremely negative' or 'extremely positive' experience. Again,
those who wrote about an unpleasant event tested higher afterward. Dr.
Klein suggests that since stress makes it hard to concentrate, writing about
it can 'jump-start' a person's working memory. This, in turn, improves
one's attention -- and academic performance."
