Is the Internet the preferred highway to your center? Definitely. "The UCLA Internet Report 2001: Surveying the Digital Future" describes the Internet as a medium whose impact and popularity are still on the upswing. The report states that more than 72% of Americans have some form of Internet access, and almost half of the nonusers expect to be on-line within a year. The fastest growing user age group are 25 to 34 year olds. The majority of users go on-line more for information than entertainment. This includes parents searching for child care and early education for their children.


Joellyn Whitehead, webmaster for the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, has seen a steady increase in the use of their web site (www.ilchildcare.org). Though the majority of over 5,000 monthly visitors to INCCRRA's site are early childhood professionals, 15% to 25% of them view the Parents section. Popular pages frequented by parents, such as those with links to area child care choices and information on selecting care, receive heaviest page views just prior to heaviest traditional enrollment periods such as August and November.
