The excitement, joy, and big smiles still permeate Jewel’s Learning Center since the surprise announcement in June. Over the past several months the Makeover partners have been busy working with Miss Charlotte, Miss Jewel, and staff to create design plans necessary for final approval.

Charlotte, with the help of Collaborative for Children and Innovations in Early Childhood Education, spent several weeks in August visiting child care centers to explore and learn about other centers’ programs. “It was an eye opener; I see things so differently now. If the Makeover ended today, I have learned so much from those visits. I’ve wanted to visit other centers, but there was never time �" or I made that excuse �" because I didn’t think I would be welcome. The Center Makeover put me in a position where I had to go out and see other centers’ programs. What a wonderful experience.”

On September 6-8, the Makeover partners met once again with Charlotte at Jewel’s Learning Center. Both interior classroom programs and nature outdoor playscape were discussed.
With a collaborative effort, the team made great progress. ...
