Librarians are often approached by parents seeking books to help their children through times of change. Sometimes it’s an excited “We’re having a new baby, do you have any books about that?” or maybe a whispered “Where can I find a book about d-i-v-o-r-c-e?” Young parents are always looking for stories that will calm the first day of school jitters or ease the way for a new sibling. Fortunately authors and illustrators are continually finding new ways to help us remind our growing children that nothing in this world is as certain as change.

Karen Katz’s books for the smallest listeners are full of bright colors and cheerful toddlers. The little girl in Now I’m Big remembers “I used to be a baby” �" but now she’s off and running. She can snap her own snaps, wear real underwear, read her own books and jump and spin and talk �" she is breathless with the possibilities that come with growing out of babyhood. The best part of being big is passing along all that she’s learned to a baby sister who needs her snaps snapped and stories shared.
