The inservice workshop appeared to be an overwhelming success. Everyone left talking about the value of play in programming. Commitments were made to rethink using worksheets and to invest in new strategies to optimize free play activities. Three days later you walk past a toddler room only to find young children struggling with worksheets during designated free play time.

After a series of complaints from teachers because afternoon snacks have slipped to milk and crackers, you spend several sessions working with the cook to upgrade menus. The cook presents you with a copy of the menu for the next two weeks. It is filled with exciting, healthy, innovative snacks. Two weeks later, teachers are back in your office telling you that the afternoon snack has been milk and crackers for the last four days.

Your board of directors has decided to give a "Teacher of the Year" award to the caregiver who has demonstrated the greatest dedication to supporting cultural diversity in his or her own room.
