An active and healthy community is one that has the collaboration and partnership of its residents, stakeholders, and families to create an environment that is healthy, safe, and full of opportunities and hope for children's growth, development, and success.

El Centro believes in providing opportunities for parents to be leaders in the community and advocates for their children. El Centro de Desarrollo y Reafirmaci¢n Familiar illustrates a clear commitment to the concepts of familia, identidad, y comunidad (family, identity, and community).

For families and staff associated with El Centro the relationship of the caregiver and child is central to parenting. Simultaneously, parenting is seen as taking place in the context of the family's relationships with others, including family members, friends, and neighborhood institutions such as the workplace, schools, community individuals, and community-based organizations.

Parents and staff believe economic, political, and social forces influence families and individuals, thus recognizing the need for families to have training in the skills of parenting but we also work to create opportunities that will lead parents to changes in attitude and behavior and help them develop the skills to advocate for concepts of familia, identidad, y communidad.
