We chose “Policy Matters” as the title for this column to reflect that the actions of our state and Federal governments impact our programs every day, and to encourage you to be involved and share your knowledge and experience, your voice in the decision-making process.In this issue of Exchange, we want to celebrate what you’re doing to carry the message that parents can’t work without child care, and early learning opportunities matter to young children. Every day, state and Federal legislators need to hear this and understand this. And whether on your own, working with a state association, or as part of the national Families Earning, Children Learning advocacy campaign that the Early Care and Education Consortium supports, you’re making it happen. • The House Committee on Education and Labor approved a Child Nutrition Act bill that includes a provision for a ‘pilot’ program for CACFP: five states will be able to offer an additional meal or snack for reimbursement under CACFP (Child & Adult Care Food Program).
